RICHMOND—At approximately midday on Monday, February 6th, Fingers, an independent newsletter about drinking in America, announced its Instagram account had received its 1,000th follower, catapulting it out of “vaguely cringe” territory and into the rarified air of four-figure niche meme pages on the platform. Heralding this modest achievement, fearless Fingers editor Dave Infante said:
Well, 751 shitposts later, @its.fingers has finally hit 1,000 followers, and we’re absolutely thrilled. Rest assured that we could have reached this milestone a LOT quicker if we were willing to play by Instagram’s rules and serve the algorithm the recycled TikToks and other video flotsam it prioritizes over the classic photo-based memes our team holds in such high editorially regard. All of us at Fingers HQ are proud to have gotten to 1,000 followers in the least-efficient, but also least-annoying way possible, and we’re excited for the boozeletter’s future success on the platform, assuming it’s still around in the future and the company formerly known as Facebook hasn’t just turned it into a big shoppable orgy of A.I.-generated schlock, which seems imminent.
In lieu of flowers, Infante encouraged members of the Fingers Fam to consider purchasing a subscription to the boozeletter, or at the very least tossing it a follow on Instagram:
